HUMANS OF THE HIGHLANDS // Rebecca Haydon
Meet Rebecca Haydon, The Female Confidence Coach.
Bec Haydon wears an impressive array of hats! She’s a confidence coach, specialising in helping female entrepreneurs take their businesses to the next level, a qualified hypnotist trained in NLP (that’s Neuro-Linguistic Programming for those of you playing along at home!) and she’s a successful podcaster – you can check out her Women Who Can podcast here.
Born in England, Bec had a career in the performing arts industry, before she swapped treading the boards in the West End of London for the hills of the Highlands, moving across the world with her partner nearly two years ago.
“A family friend had a place in Bowral and offered us their place to stay in while we worked out what we were going to do,” Bec says.
“We thought let’s stay a few weeks. Nearly two years later, we’re still here and just about to move to Moss Vale. I think you could say we’re calling the Southern Highlands home now.”
Bec is super interesting with some awesome experience in working with female entrepreneurs, so we wanted to share what she does with you guys.
1 // Let’s talk about your career switch first – from performer to confidence coach!
I grew up in the performing arts industry. I’ve done singing and acting most of my life, trained professionally, had an agent, worked in London, did a fair bit of touring – looking back now, I realise what a hard and brutal industry it is. I always had the confidence to perform, but when you’re going to four or five auditions a week and not getting called back for any of them, you have to learn be okay with that.
Funnily enough, I got into coaching because I struggled with my mental health during that time, as most performers do dealing with rejection on top of rejection. I did a lot of work in that area and started blogging about it – the techniques and tools I was trying and working with. People started responding positively to what I was doing, saying I had helped them. So I looked into NLP and hypnosis training and became qualified in those areas. I left the performing arts industry when I was 24 and now do coaching full time.
2 // Tell us more about Neuro-Linguistics Programming. What is NLP and how does it help your clients?
NLP can change the way you think, reprogram how you view the past which then reprograms how you view your present and approach your future.
We all have neural pathways in the brain we have created or taken on, whether that’s through a traumatic experience or something we’ve gone through that has had a significant, emotional impact on us. We create these neural pathways which then informs the way we react to something.
You may be not playing big in your business because someone in primary school said you’d never be a success. Or you might have a fantastic idea for a business, but you’re too fearful to start it because you grew up with a parent who constantly put you down or ridiculed your ideas and creativity when you were a child. You don’t have the confidence to do something or act in a different way because your neural pathways have formed, and your inner voice tells you you’re not good enough.
NLP can change all this and reprogram those pathways.
3 // How does hypnosis work and why are you such a big fan?
I’ve seen firsthand the amazing results of hypnotherapy with my clients. I swear by hypnosis. It’s a big game changer. So, how does it work?
Our thoughts create our feelings. Our feelings create our actions. Actions create the results. If you’re not getting the results you want in life, then it probably comes down to the thoughts you’re having.
Hypnosis allows us to connect the conscious mind to the subconscious mind and reprogram the thoughts that we DON’T want to the ones that we DO. The mind is an incredible tool, and we don’t use it as much as we should. Hypnosis taps into the amazing power of our minds.
4 // What can your clients expect from your coaching?
Clients know what they want, but don’t understand why they have this constant resistance around their goals. They know where they want to be or what they want to be doing, they just don’t know how to get there. I help them build the bridge to get them there by working our way through limiting beliefs that have been pre-programmed into them, creating new pathways and building that all-important self-confidence.
We’ll commit to 8 –12 sessions. It’s all very client led as everyone is so very different. I’ve not had one client who wants the same thing. The first few sessions are focused on the inner work we need to do and then the rest of the sessions are super strategic and action focused. There will be outcomes, and they will be awesome!
5 // So, let’s get back to confidence. Why is it so important?
When you have confidence in one part of your life, it can positively impact other areas of your life through natural osmosis! I work with female business owners, leaders and entrepreneurs every day, and see how increased confidence in their career and business can lead to an increase in confidence in their finances, health, relationships and so much more.
Working on one small thing can have a huge impact on every other aspect of your life.
6 // What do you love about living and working in the Southern Highlands?
For me, it’s a little taste of England. The green hills, the views and how beautiful it is everywhere here – I don’t get homesick as much! And it’s been that feeling of community the Highlands does so well that has kept us here. Why would we leave that?
Rebecca Haydon helps ambitious female leaders and entrepreneurs create unstoppable confidence, so they can sell with ease, show up as the expert, and create more visibility. She’s also a podcaster – you can listen to her Women Who Can podcast here. Oh, and she is a little partial to an espresso martini or two.
